Pray for Vocations
Apr 17, 2018
Today is the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Praying for vocations is very important for every Catholic who loves the Church and his/her parish.
The numbers in seminaries is up. Our diocese is no exception. However, as priests die or retire there are still not enough to replace all of them. That means we still have more parish clustering (one pastor, two or three parishes) or closing parishes, perhaps not as many as we feared.
Wouldn’t it be great to be able to say that St. Frances Cabrini has given a young man to the priesthood? Most parishes can do that. Please pray for vocations.
I have often asked myself, “What made the parish in which I grew up so special?” St. Agnes was founded in 1885. In its 133 years it has given a dozen priests, (I am the most recent), two religious brothers (one of whom was my uncle,), and finally, an unbelievable 70 sisters.
I don’t have the answer to my question about what made that parish special. However, it is worth finding the answer so we could imitate it.
